BLT in Bayombong is in Full Swing PDF Print E-mail

The In-School Feeding Program for 434 pupil beneficiaries from 14 elementary schools in Bayombong to address drop-out rates is in full swing, under the leadership of the Bayombong Local Education Alliance and the Kalinga Mission Center of Saint Mary’s University and with the continued support of Jollibee Foundation. True to the commitment that it has given, the Bayombong Local Education Alliance, chaired by Mayor John Severino Bagasao, has continued the Feeding Program in the 7 pilot schools that were previously supported by Jollibee Foundation last school year, under their Busog, Lusog, Talino (BLT) Program. The pilot schools include the Bayombong Central, Bonfal Pilot, Cabuaan, Bonfal West, La Torre, Magsaysay, and Vista Hills Elementary Schools, with a total of 231 pupil-beneficiaries.

At the same time, Jollibee Foundation, as a testament to its continuing commitment to support the Feeding Program of 57-75 sites, is once again partnering with the Kalinga Mission Center to support 7 new schools under the BLT Program; namely, the Bayombong South, Masoc, Paitan, Lingay, Ammococan, Bayombong West, and Casat Elementary Schools, with a total of 203 pupil-beneficiaries. Jollibee Foundation’s generous involvement is an expansion of the Foundation’s partnership with the local stakeholders of Bayombong not only with regard to the BLT Program that started last school year but also with regard to improving overall multi-stakeholder governance in Bayombong through its Citizen-Responsive Governance Project with the AIM-TeaM Enery Center for Bridging Societal Divides that was started in September of 2006.

The Feeding Program in the 7 pilot schools was started last August 5, while the BLT Program for the 7 new schools was started last August 12. In order to prepare for the actual feeding, training on Bridging Leadership and orientation on the BLT Program were conducted for the school heads of the 14 elementary schools and the members of the Local Education Alliance, including the 2 DepEd District Supervisors, last June 30 and July 1 at the Saint Mary’s University Campus.  At the same time, the master lists of beneficiaries were finalized and validated, through the Operation Timbang that was carried out in all participating schools from July 21 to 25. The Kalinga Mission Center spearheaded the Operation Timbang, in partnership with the School of Nursing of Saint Mary’s University that was able to mobilize faculty members and almost 250 nursing students for the weighing.

Store volunteers from Jollibee and Chowking stores in Solano, a nearby town, are also involved in the regular monitoring of the program for all 14 schools. The BLT Program demonstrates the commitment of the different groups in Bayombong – from the LGU, academe, industry and civil society – to come together to ensure the success of the program and address the health and education concerns of the municipality.
